Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are surprised by how little they feel. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — much thinner than a hypodermic needle. You may notice a mild sensation when the needle is inserted, often described as a dull heaviness, a slight warmth, or a faint tingling. Many clients fall asleep during the session.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, when practised by a qualified and trained practitioner. I use single-use, sterile needles and follow professional hygiene standards. Serious side effects are extremely rare. Some people experience mild temporary tiredness or light bruising at needle sites.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your situation and how long you have been experiencing it. Acute conditions often respond in 3 to 6 sessions. Chronic conditions that have been present for years typically require a longer course — usually 8 to 12 sessions, then less frequent maintenance. I will give you an honest assessment after the first session, and we will always adjust depending on how you feel.
How quickly will I see results?
Some people notice a difference after the first session. Others see gradual improvement over several sessions. A small number experience a temporary increase in symptoms before they improve — this is a normal part of the process.
Can acupuncture be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Acupuncture works well alongside conventional medical care, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and other complementary approaches. Please let me know what other sessions you are receiving so I can tailor the session accordingly.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is longer than follow-up sessions — up to 90 minutes. It begins with a detailed consultation where I ask about your main concern, medical history, sleep, digestion, energy levels, and general wellbeing. This gives me the information I need to design an effective approach. The session itself follows, during which you lie comfortably while a small number of needles are placed at relevant points.
What should I do before my session?
Have a light meal beforehand — avoid coming on an empty stomach. Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid alcohol on the day of your session.
What should I do after my session?
Drink plenty of water. Avoid intense exercise and alcohol for the rest of the day. Some people feel very relaxed or mildly tired after — this is normal and usually passes within a few hours.
Do you work with children?
Yes, I have experience working with children and young people. Paediatric acupuncture uses fewer needles and shallower insertion. For younger children, I may use non-insertive techniques. Please get in touch to discuss your child’s specific situation.
Where are you located?
My clinic is at Calle del Embajador Vich 3, Valencia 46002 — in the Eixample neighbourhood, close to the Ayuntamiento. Easy to reach on foot or by metro (lines 3, 5 and 9 — stop Colón).
